What is NikkiikkiN about?

This my collection of cakes, sweets, parties and design.  I am excited to share them with you and I would be even more happy if they were to inspire you to create something special yourself.

I have been full of creative energy for years and I always have a few projects in the works.  Most of the time my projects are for the people I love, sometimes they are for other people who like what I do.  Either way it makes me happy just to create.

Professionally I am an Interior Designer with a degree in Fine Arts.  I have worked on projects for grand hotels and resorts, fast paced New York offices, retail showrooms and high end NYC residential homes. While I’ve put my interior design career on hold for a while, I still love the field.   I will return to it one day soon and I’m thankful my education and experiences have influenced my design taste and skillful eye in my other creative outlets.    In tandem with interior design, my love for other arts and crafts has always flourished.   One of my most loved disciplines is cake decorating, my SugarCoated projects are of all sorts but most often are children’s cakes.  I am skilled in Paper + Fabric crafts and try to make each of my projects with them an experiment.  I hardly do the same project twice.  When I pull all of those crafts together I can create the most wonderful events and Celebrations, which I am honored to create for my friends and family.

I have many ideas and tricks up my sleeve and I will be working hard to regularly share my projects.  I am also proud post about my family life in NYC. We are in love with living in a quaint little neighborhood in Brooklyn and we never know what we will run across daily.   I hope that you will have a look around my blog and continue to check back often.   If you see something you like and you think to yourself : “thats so me!” or “I can do that!”, then I’ve accomplished what I am here to do and I’d love to chat with you about it.  Cheers! Nikki

  1. Dear Nikki,

I am the owner of http://www.thepartystartshere.com. We just got an order for party invtiations. I followed the link to your blog and wanted to thank you for featurning the pink cowgirl hat invitation for Macy’s 6th Birthday. The party details were amazing. I loved the cake and of course Macy was so adorable!! Please let me know if we can post your party on our fan facebook page and exchange a link. Thank you again, Debbie Pollick

    • Absolutely! I loved ordering from you, the invites came wrapped so pretty….and smelled like marshmallows from the scented paper packaging. Thanks for your kind words, my Manhattan Cowgirl post is my most viewed post, I wish you many orders inspired from it!

    Hi Nikki,
I love your Dylan’s candy bar invitations and want to do the same for my daughter’s birthday party. Do you have specific instructions on how to set up the labels and also the invites? please advise…

    • Hi Iris, I made the labels in photoshop. But if you can work Word you can probably make them there too by importing a striped image and adding text boxes. The label size depends on what your envelope size is, google some examples to help as guide but there is no set size required to make it through the mail. Good luck, hope that helps!

  6. Wow, this paragraph is pleasant, my younger sister is
analyzing these things, thus I am going to tell her.

  7. Hi, I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award – check it out here!

Hello! I love your blog! my daughter is 12 and loves dancing. She has a very similar style with Macy and both live in big cities. (We live in Chicago) Anyway, I loved your Christmas wish list last year, will you please make another one? I would love your gift ideas.

    • Hi Anna, Thanks for stopping by! I think I will do another tween gift list this year. My husband and I have already been talking about gifts and we have some great ideas.

Hello! I love your blog! My daughter is dancing in the Joffrey Chicago nutcracker this year and we want to give her something special. She reminds me of a “chic tween” and has great taste. Do you have any ideas?

Hey Nikki! This blog is amazing! I love your cookies, but I am just starting to make them. Would you do a how to post for cookies? That would be awesome.

    • Hi Anna, Im happy to hear that my cookie skills look good enough to warrant some tutorials! I of course think that I have a long way to go before Im as good as the cookie artists that I admire. But I also think Im at that beginning stage where I see clearly how this path starts. Right now Im so consumed with making hundreds of cookies that I have been very behind on blog posts but I appreciate hearing from readers and LOVE requests for posts so Im going to put that on my list of ideas. Thanks for stopping in! NB

Hello! My family (two year old daughter and husband) just bought an apartment in manhattan. I love the blog and love your design aesthetic! We are so happy living in NY, it’s all been so exciting and I can’t wait to get out and try everything. Blaire loves her new home and the shared playroom has been a lifesaver during the snow! Thanks for inspiring us with your blog, now we just have to worry about preschool! ;)

    • Hi Stacy, Thanks for reading along and checking in with me! Im in the same preschool boat, its time for my son to go next year. Good luck to you.

      • Stacy

Sure! Who knew the world of NYC preschool was so high stakes? I don’t think I toured as many colleges as we are touring preschools, but its totally worth it to raise kids in the city!

    • Hi Donna,
Thanks for your interest in my work, I am in Brooklyn, NY and only do cakes locally. They dont ship well. I do ship favor cookies and fondant cupcake toppers but they take several days to make and a week to ship. Check in with me again at least 2 weeks prior to your next event. You can also view my product in my etsy shop for pricing and and ideas. Thanks, Nikki

    HI Nikki,

Can you please get in touch with me? I love the carousel cake that you made. I wanted to have my baby girl’s first birthday there at janes carousel cake too. Can you please let me know how much you would charge for a cake that size? thanks.

  14. Hannah

PLEASE do another post about Macy’s style- I follow on instagram and have kids the same age- I love her clothes!

    • Hi Hannah,
Thanks so much for the support! What is your IG handle? Id love to see your kids! I do love to post about Macy’s clothes, I get more joy out of dressing her than I do myself, lol. In fact she is starting to wear ladies size XXS and women size shoes so her options have increased exponentially. My baking orders are slower in June and July and I hope to catch up on a lot of blog and business soon. I’ll definitely add a post on Macy to my list!

  15. Fernanda

    Hi Nikki,
I’m in love with this Carousel Cake! I’ll have my daughter’s birthday party at Jane’s Carousel (September/19th) and i was wondering if you are able to create a cake like this for us :-)

  16. Fernanda

    Hi Nikki,
Did you get my message? I would love to have you planning the party for us.

  17. Linda

    Hi there,
I’m obsessed with your Wild Things party. I want to make the same mural, but I was wondering where you got your original images from to print them. I’m afraid if I just google search images, and blow it up, it’ll probably turn out grainy.

    • Hi Linda,
I scanned the image directly from a real book. Thats the best way to get the best possible quality to work with.
Thanks for stopping by the blog.

  18. audrey

    Hi Nikki,
I was just admiring your “where the wild things are banner”. You stated that you scanned an uploaded your PDF to Vista Print. Did you just print out the illustration online and then scan? I keep getting a “low resolution” error on Vistaprint. Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks, Audrey.
